Sparkling City of Champagne
The largest city in the Champagne-Ardenne, Reims is inextricably linked with this region’s famous sparkling wine. In fact, the city’s symbol - its huge Gothic cathedral - has a window depicting the monk who invented champagne: Dom Perignon. This coronation cathedral of French kings for around a millennium also has stained-glass windows designed by Marc Chagall.
A mosaic detailing champagne production also features on an Art Nouveau building with a barrel-shaped door on Rue de Mars, next to the 17th-century city hall.
But it’s the Reims champagne houses that are stars of the show. Many big brands are headquartered here and some including Pommery and Taittinger offer cellar tours in their underground chalk caves. You can also visit Veuve-Clicquot by appointment. Of course, no tour would be complete without a champagne tasting session, so you may leave feeling a little bubbly.
As you’d expect of such a prestigious city, there’s no shortage of restaurants, bars and shops including Galeries Lafayette and the Espace d’Erlon shopping center. Tree-lined Place d’Erlon is considered the heart of the city and is home to the Reims Christmas markets.

The town has some very nice older French architecture and is very walkable. You can find everything you need within a few hundred meters. We didn’t use public transportation but we saw trams, buses and the rail station is an easy five minute walk.

Nice city that can be toured in 1 full day. The main attraction is the Cathedral of Notre Dame. Make sure to take the Pommery tour champagne experience (no need to do Villa Demoiselle). Also make sure to visit the automobile museum. Have dinner or lunch around the Place Drouet d'Erlon (which is 5 min walk from the main train station). A very good place to stay for Champagne lovers and to use as a base to explore the region and is not too far from Epernay by car or train. It also has some very fine examples of Art Deco and Art Nouveau architecture. The cathedral is not to be missed and the Crayères at Ruinart an UNESCO site

Perfect place for a city break. A lovely city with a beautiful Cathedral and local church. Excellent shops, good balance for all budgets. Wonderful, traditional bistro/brasserie French restaurants. Great city vibe with lots of entertainment, night life and wonderful cafes. Check out the boulangeries and local cafes. Excellent cakes and pastries. Lovely people, happy to speak English if you don't speak French.

The location is stunning. The hotel itself was in an old building, parts of it were renovated for example the fairly small but well equipped breakfast area, parts looked fairly outdated like for example the hallways. In the rooms the bathrooms were recently redecorated, but the bed room itself showed its age with some peeling/loose wall paper for example. it was very quiet.

Having travelled for 2 months mostly in hotels, it was so nice to have somewhere we could relax over a home cooked meal...and do some washing! Audrey was just delightful and very helpful. There is a 'City Bus' (small, square blue bus) you can catch outside Vranken-Pommery near the big house you can catch to the champagne houses, city centre & train station which saves you about €10-15 one way in a taxi. Wish we had known that sooner.
